Releases: Yalla Habibi Rise Again
Our friends Electric Bing Sutt were among the many people devastated by the horrific explosion in Beirut. Yalla Habibi Rise Again is a reconstruction of their classic "EBS Gimlet". All proceeds will go to their fundraiser.
Our friends Electric Bing Sutt were among the many people devastated by the horrific explosion in Beirut. We’ve reconstructed their classic cocktail “EBS Gimlet” and called it Yalla Habibi Rise Again on Jad Ballout’s suggestion:
“Yalla Habibi (Come On Darling!)” is one of the most common phrases in Lebanese. It’s encouraging, it’s positive, it’s “shut up and let’s act now”, and it is exactly what we need for Beirut and our bar Electric Bing Sutt. We need to rise again, and with everyone’s help, we will.”
All proceeds are going to their fundraiser. Please check out the link below if you can donate a little something more to this great team:
Electric Bing Sutt is a funky & neon dazzled Asian Middle Eastern all-day bar in the heart of Beirut, inspired by the traditional Hong Kong style “Bing Sutt” (Asian diner). Think modern Asian Middle Eastern cocktails and authentic Asian food with a touch of New York funk.
During the day, the space showcases its vibrant shades of green in contrast with the concrete floor and original 100-year-old stone walls. At night, when the pink neon is lit, the whole space transforms into a seductive bar that only exists in 80s Hong Kong movies. The large open facade connects the bar directly to the street where people can enjoy cocktails in a lively Beirut old town vibe.
Electric Bing Sutt’s original recipe uses gin. We chose ES X ēe #1, the collaboration spirit we released last year with Alex Kratena & Monica Berg of Tayēr & Elementary in London. It made sense in terms of flavors, but also because the cherry stems we used for this project came from Beirut. As it turns out, Jad was the one who picked those stems, which we only found out when we suggested using this spirit. Back then, Alex flew in for a one-night guest shift at Electric Bing Sutt and came back to Europe with a suitcase full of them.
We used a bunch of exciting ingredients for this drink, including sumac that Sasha from R&D specially foraged in Bornholm.
We hope you’ll enjoy it and help us get Jad and his team on their feet again.
Tasting Notes: Fruity, fresh, slightly acidic, dry. Super smashable.
Key ingredients: ES X ēe #1, Manzanilla Sherry, Green Apple, Sumac, Shiso, Basil, Yuzu
Recommended serve: Over ice
